Robert Keith Else, age 69, of North Mankato, died Tuesday, June 7, 2005 at his home surrounded by his wife, daughter, and two sons.
The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 11, 2005 at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Mankato with Rev. John Petersen officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Hills Memorial Park, Mankato. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Friday at Christ the King Lutheran Church and continues one hour before services on Saturday. Mankato Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Robert K. Else Family Charitable Foundation P.O. Box 3546, Mankato, MN 56002.
Robert was born September 19, 1935 to Carl and Eleanor (Malmquist) Else in Chicago, IL. He graduated from the University of Illinois in Engineering Physics and Industrial Engineering and received his MBA from the University of Chicago. Robert married Lenore M. Strand on August 18, 1962. They were married by her father Rev. Ahlert H.C. Strand at Saint Marks Lutheran Church in Chicago, IL. He received 4 patents while working for General Telephone and Electronics (GTE) in Northlake, IL. They moved to Mankato in 1968 where he took the position as Sales Manager at Midtex, Inc., later becoming President. In 1984 he and his wife, Lenore founded EI Microcircuits, Inc.
Robert served on many boards including the Hospital Board, YMCA Board, First Bank advisory committee, Port Authority, Valley Industrial, HickoryTech, The Jesus Film Project, and various Church Boards as well as teaching Sunday school and The Bethel Bible series. Robert and Lenore went on many mission trips with Campus Crusade for Christ to Russia, China, Romania, Egypt, and Turkey. They also went on mission trips with International Cooperating Ministries (ICM) to Cuba.
Robert and Lenore were on the committee which sent a Jesus Video to 62,000 homes in the Mankato area. Robert and Lenore were the second recipients ever to receive The Hope Medallion from The Jesus Film Project for outstanding leadership toward giving the world Hope in Jesus Christ. Robert was a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, gardening, mission work, and spending time with his family. Of his many accomplishments, he most loved his work for Jesus Christ, his wife, his children, and his grandchildren.
Robert is survived by his wife, Lenore; daughter, Lori Butler and her husband, Barry of Owatonna; two sons, Rob Else and his wife, Rhonda of Mankato, Eric Else and his wife, Mindy of North Mankato; seven grandchildren, Parker, Lara, Cole, Brynn, Justin, Lauren, and Andrew; two brothers, Ronald Else and his wife, Delores of Fullerton, CA, Richard Else and his wife, Karen of Glen Ellyn, IL.; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
