Jerome Jay D. Friedrichs, age 66, of Mankato, died Tuesday, May 17, 2005 at Methodist Hospital in Rochester after a short term battle with cancer.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Mankato with Rev. Richard Colletti officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday at Mankato Mortuary with a 7 p.m. prayer service. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at church on Saturday. Memorials are preferred to an organization of the donors choice.
Jay was born January 13, 1939 in Mankato to Clarence Louis and LaVon Dorothy (Greenwell) Friedrichs. After attending Mankato High School, he served in the US Marines from 1956-1958. On May 5, 1959, he married Carol Ann Thissen at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Mankato.
Jay worked at Mankato Corporation prior to his employment with NSP as the Lead Plant Equipment Operator at the Wilmarth Power Plant from 1960"1979. In April of 1979, Jay went to work as a Business Representative for IBEW Local 949 and in May of 1992, he became their Business Manager. Jay recieved a heart transplant in 1991. He retired in March of 1998. Later that year, he worked for OPEIU Local 12 until his second retirement in March of 2002. For the past two years, Jay was a contract negotiator for School District 77 Custodial and Maintenance Department.
Jay was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and a past member of the Mankato Moose Lodge. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, all kinds of sports and loved spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife, Carol of Mankato; daughter, Julie (Kevin) Koempel of Lakeville; three sons, Jeffrey Friedrichs of Lakeville, Douglas (Jodi) Friedrichs of Sauk Rapids, Brad (Amy) Friedrichs of Eagle Lake; eight grandchildren, Ryan, Jessica, Jennie, Jay Paul, Joshua, Matthew, Mercedes, and Megan; a great-grandson, Logan; two brothers, DuWayne (Toshiko) Friedrichs of Colorado Springs, CO, Fred (Juli) Friedrichs of Nisswa; sister, Doreen (Bill) Ulrich of Goodyear, AZ; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Jay was preceded in death by his parents.
