Dagnie B. Knowlton, age 87 of Mankato, died Wednesday, May 11, 2005 at her home in Mankato.
Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 14, 2005 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Mankato, with Rev. Steve Kosberg officiating. Burial will be in Pilgrims Rest Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. Friday at Mankato Mortuary, and also one hour before the service on Saturday at the church. Memorials are preferred to Our Saviors Lutheran Church or to an organization of the donors choice.
Dagnie was born February 1, 1918 in Maddock, North Dakota to Hans and Anne (Benson) Asbjornson. She attended grade school in Hesper, ND and graduated from Maddock High School. She continued her education and graduated from Fargo Commercial College with a secretarial degree. On August 16, 1942 she married Wayne A. Knowlton at North Viking Lutheran Church in Maddock. They lived in Minnewauken, ND, Aberdeen, SD, and White Bear Lake, MN before moving to Mankato, MN in 1966.
Dagnie was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother who will be deeply missed by her family and friends. She enjoyed baking, gardening, canning, golfing, bowling, playing cards, sewing, making quilts, traveling, outings with her friends, Bible studies and reading. Dagnie loved flowers and had a green thumb. She was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church for 39 years and active within various groups in the church.
Dagnie is survived by her husband of 62 years, Wayne Knowlton; daughter, Nancy Leppa and her husband, John of Vadnais Heights, MN; daughter, Bonnie Nelson and her husband, David of Niwot, CO; son, Glenn Knowlton and his wife, Nancy (Kvasnicka) of Fargo, ND; daughter, Kren Theissen and her husband, Steven of Owatonna, MN; 8 grandchildren, Christine Horwath, Elizabeth Horwath and her husband, Jerry, Kristen Nelson, Ryan Theissen, Sara Theissen, Thomas Knowlton, Kathryn Knowlton, Madelyn Knowlton; 4 great-grandchildren, Matthew Horwath, Grant Horwath, Audrey Horwath and Elsie Horwath; 2 sisters, Effie Swanson of Chandler, AZ and Ruth Nesset of Prescott, AZ; 5 sisters-in-law, Stella Benson and Dolores Benson of Maddock, ND, Vera Benson of Rugby, ND, Verna Knowlton of San Diego, CA, and Ann Knowlton of Dundee, FL; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her mother, father and 3 brothers.
