Michael J. FitzSimmons, age 79, of rural Good Thunder, died Monday, May 9, 2005 at Immanuel-St. Josephs Hospital.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, at St. Josephs Catholic Church in Good Thunder with Rev. Joseph Mountain officiating. Burial will be in St. Josephs Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Mankato Mortuary with a 4 p.m. prayer service. Visitation will continue one hour before the service at the church on Friday. Memorials are preferred to the Good Thunder Fire Department or to an organization of the donors choice.
Michael was born August 24, 1925 in Mankato to Myles and Rose (Lorentz) FitzSimmons. He graduated from Good Thunder High School in 1944 and served with the National Guard for two years. On June 19, 1948, he married Rose Good in Vernon Center and they made their home near Good Thunder. Mike farmed in Lyra Township all his life, served on the ASCS County Committee for several years and served on the Good Thunder Public School Board. He was a member of St. Josephs Catholic Church in Good Thunder and served for 25 years on the St. Josephs Catholic Cemetery Board. Mike devoted his life to his family and to farming and found time to enjoy hunting in Montana, horses, and history.
Survivors include his wife, Rose FitzSimmons of Good Thunder, five children and their spouses, Mary Sue and David Sohre of Mapleton, David and Terri FitzSimmons, Gary and Nancy FitzSimmons, Kevin and Christine FitzSimmons all of Good Thunder, Patty and John Thomas of Amboy; 19 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Jane Wandersee of Mankato, Margaret Hiller and her husband, Conley of Good Thunder; brother, Robert FitzSimmons of Good Thunder; six sisters-in-law, Catherine Stebbins, Mary Smith, Dorothy Good, Patricia Denn and her husband, Clifford, Joan Good, and Betty Good; nieces, nephews, cousins, and Mikes caregivers.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.
