Sylvia Hammer, age 88, of Mankato, died Sunday, May 8, 2005 at Mount Olivet Careview Home in Minneapolis. Funeral service 11:00 a.m. Friday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Mankato with Rev. Paul Meierding officiating. Burial will be in Lincoln Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Memorials are preferred to Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Mankato Mortuary is handling arrangements.
Sylvia was born August 17, 1916 in Madelia to Amund and Anne (Olson) Solseth. She attended Madelia Public Schools. On May 17, 1935, she married Gordon Hammer at the Little Brown Church in the Vale in Nashua, Iowa. They moved to Mankato in 1967. Sylvia was a homemaker for her family and had worked at Midtex for 20 years. She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church and a former member of the Elks and Moose Lodges. Sylvia enjoyed reading, dancing, music and traveling.
Sylvia is survived by her son, Jerry Hammer and his wife, Cheri of Bloomington; three grandchildren, Debbie McCoy of Minneapolis, Shari Pund and her husband, Richard of Atlanta, GA, Michele Casteel and her husband, Kevin, of Atlanta, GA; great grandchildren Jennifer Wooten, Alex, Carly, Lauren and Christopher Casteel; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant brother, and her husband in 1986.
