Darrel Neil Van Sickle, 76, of Garden City, died Wednesday, May 4, 2005 at Luther Memorial Home in Madelia.
A 10:30 a.m. service will be held on Saturday at St. Peters Lutheran Church in Vernon Center with Rev. Thomas Lock officiating. Burial will be in Garden City Cemetery. There will be one hour of visitation prior to the service at church on Saturday. Mankato Mortuary is handling arrangements.
Darrel was born June 10, 1928 in Blue Earth County to Earl and Cecilie (Andreasen) Van Sickle. He graduated in 1946 from Garden City High School and later from the University of Minnesota. He married Marion Denn on September 16, 1950 at St. Peters Lutheran Church in Vernon Center. Darrel farmed all his life near Garden City.
Darrel was a past member of the Garden City School Board, Wellcome Memorial School Board, Wellcome Trust Board, Garden City Cemetery Board, and the Garden City Sportsman Club.
Survivors include his wife, Marion; two sons, Barry and his wife, Kate of Roseville, CA, Kim and his wife, Diane of Garden City; two daughters, Sue Hayes and her husband, Peter of St. Paul, Jan Barke and her husband, John of Roseville, MN; nine grandchildren, Heather, Chase, Parker, Kara, Jesse, Jenna, Jacob, Joseph, and Carlianne; two sisters, Esther Talsness of International Falls, Sue Cummins of Pasadena, CA; sister-in-law, Lois Van Sickle of Rochester; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Earl Jr. in infancy and Harley Van Sickle; and a sister, Ila Bergien.
