Sister Eileen Caven (aka Sister Laurine), School Sister of Notre Dame, age 85, died April 12, 2005, at Good Counsel Convent, Mankato, Minnesota.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at Good Counsel Chapel, with Fr. Syl Brown as celebrant. Visitation is from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday at Good Counsel, with Vespers in the chapel at 7:00 p.m. Visitation is also one hour prior to the funeral on Saturday. Mankato Mortuary is in charge.

Sister Eileen was born in Amboy, Minnesota, on February 26, 1920, to Thomas and Catherine (Pfeffer). She entered the School Sisters of Notre Dame in Mankato in 1939 and took First Vows in 1942. She served as nurses aide at Good Counsel for 12 years before moving into teaching primary grades in Minnesota and Iowa for 25 years, after which she continued to work in elementary schools as aide, before coming to Good Counsel in 1999 where she taught in the Learning Center up to the time of her death. Over the years, she earned a B.E. in Education from Mount Mary College, Milwaukee.

Sister is survived by three sisters, Bernadine Dickey (Cecil), Margaret Flintrop (Joe), and Teresa Francis, three sisters-in-law, Marian Caven, Eleanor Caven, and Donna Caven, a brother-in-law, Robert Fitzsimmons, many nieces and nephews and by her Sisters in Community, the School Sisters of Notre Dame. She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, and four brothers.
