August 17, 2013: Jeanne Helen (Lundin) Kottke, 89 of Mankato, MN passed away at Abbott Northwestern Hospital of multiple health issues.
Celebration of Life service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, August 22, 2013 at Hilltop United Methodist Church in Mankato with Pastor Fred Vanderwerf officiating. Burial will be in Woodville Cemetery in Waseca. Visitation will be held one hour before the service at the church on Thursday. Memorials to be donated to the Mount Olivet Cemetery and or the Holberg Cemetery. Mankato Mortuary in charge of arrangements.
She was born on December 16, 1923 to Gust and Anna (Anderson) Lundin in Mankato. She was an active in the Bethel Baptist church in her formative years. Jeanne graduated from Mankato High school in 1942. She attended Mankato Commercial College and worked in area banks. Jeanne then attended Mankato Teachers College and graduated 1949 with a degree in Physical Education/Health, music and Speech. She taught Physical Education & Health in the St. James School System. In 1951 she was joined in marriage to Donald Earl Kottke at the First Baptist Church in Mankato. Jeanne and Don farmed for many years in rural Waseca, MN where she was an active member of the Evangelical United Methodist church. She worked to support the family as a farmer's wife-driving trucks and tractors. Donald died in 1977 and she retired to continue raising their daughters. In 1981 she moved back to Mankato and lived a very active life which included traveling, Swedish Club, volunteering at Thrift shops, playing golf at Terrace view women's league, water aerobics, active in the Hilltop United Methodist Church and Women's Circle and choir, and board member of the Holberg Cemetery. She enjoyed spending time playing the piano and eating out with family and friends-especially with her grandchildren which were her joy.
Jeanne is will be greatly missed by her two daughters: Sherry (Wayne) Lewis of Nicollet, Karen (Bruce) Philipson of Minnetrista, MN. One grandson: Robert Philipson of Madison Lake and 2 granddaughters: Anna Jeanne and Kaitlin Lewis of Nicollet and one great grandson Gauge and great-granddaughter Lilly. Other survivors include one niece-Dixie Ortley and one nephew Richard (Darlene) Lundin along with many cousins and friends.
