Thomas Charles Atwood, age 55, passed away on Friday, August 9th at Mayo Hospital, Mankato after a three year valiant fight with kidney cancer. His strong will to live, unwavering faith in God, and the love and prayers of family, friends and many supporters carried him through. Tom was surrounded by loved ones as the Lord took his hand.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Hosanna Lutheran Church, 105 Hosanna Drive, Mankato on Thursday, August 15th. "Celebration of Tom's Life" will be held at Hosanna Lutheran Church at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 16th. Mankato Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Born on June 25, 1958 and raised in Mankato, Tom is a 1976 graduate of Mankato West High School. He was the third generation in the family with the Atwood Companies. He joined the company in 1978 as a licensed sales associate and became Broker/Owner of Century 21-Atwood Realty and Atwood Property Management. He served as president of the Realtor Association of Southern Minnesota (RASM) from 1990 " 1991. Over the years, he has served as a member of the Board of Directors, MLS and Governmental Affairs Committees as well as many other committees for RASM. He served on the Professional Standards Committee for the Minnesota Association of Realtors and was very actively involved with real estate and property management related affairs.
Tom touched the lives of many people with his smile, infectious laugh and generosity. He maintained his sense of humor all the way to the end. He is known for his kind and always positive attitude. His love for God and family were second to none.

Tom's passions included spending time with family, sailing (most recently on their sailboat, "Healing Grace" in Bayfield, Wisconsin), snowmobiling, life at the lake, traveling, golfing, kicking back with friends and enjoying life.

He was the beloved husband of Deb. He will always remain in her heart and the hearts of his loving family"children - Michael (Darian), Bryan (Erin), Andrew, Jennifer (Brandon), Matthew (Jeney) and Jason (April); grandchildren: Benton, Dominic, Andre' and Jade; sisters Linda Goldetsky (Steve), Peggy Hellerstein (Jon); nieces and nephews; parents Charles and Ann Atwood. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Berens.

Memorial donations may be made to the Kidney Cancer Association or to the Richard M. Schulze Family American Cancer Society Hope Lodge, Twin Cities.
