William J. Bill Wersal, Jr., age 67, of Mankato, died Sunday, January 30, 2005 at his residence following a battle with lung cancer. Memorial services will be held 1:00 p.m., Saturday, February 5, 2005 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Mankato. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Mankato Mortuary is handling arrangements.
Bill was born on August 15, 1937 in Springfield. He was the son of William J. Sr. and Mary (Roiger) Wersal. He was united in marriage to Dorothy Homan on May 8, 1958 in Fairfax. They later divorced. Over the years, Bill was employed in grain elevator construction, was a mechanic, carpenter, and janitorial worker. He also worked in drainage tiling, garden tilling, and owned a gas station and sports shop. Bill was a member of A.A., the Turtle Club, Snowmobile Club, Elks Club, and an active church member. He enjoyed playing the concertina, doing carpentry, hunting and fishing, playing cards, fossil hunting, was an avid collector and a snipe hunting guide. Bill was a Jack of All Trades and a loving father and grandfather who built a reputation for helping any and all.
Bill is survived by six children, Debbie Kallem of Kalispell, MT, Kevin (Angie) Wersal of Glasgow, MT, Denise (Earl) Carson of Glasgow, MT, Lori Jenson of LeCenter, Brenda (Gary) Wick of LeCenter, and Jodi Wersal of Mankato; 17 grandchildren; one great-grandson; two brothers, Leonard (Dorothy) Wersal of Owatonna, Harold (Mary) Wersal of Morgan; five sisters, Irene Groebner of New Ulm, Evelyn (Ray) Kastner of Sanborn, Lucille (Lloyd) Johnson of Morgan, MaryAnn (Leo) Veit of New Ulm, and Donna Weisensel of Springfield; also many nieces and nephews.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents and an infant son, William J. Wersal III.
