Ruth E. Mitchell, age 92, of Mankato and formerly of Lincoln, NE, died Sunday, January 23, 2005 at Mankato House Health Care Center.
A visitation will be held 4-6 p.m. on Thursday, January 27, 2005 at Mankato Mortuary. Interment will be in Wyuka Cemetery in Lincoln, NE. Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society.
Ruth was born on December 11, 1912 in Baltimore, MD. She was the daughter of August and Nellie Mae (Chitty) Hutchins. Ruth was a graduate of Eastern High School in Baltimore. She was united in marriage to Walter J. Mitchell on January 2, 1941 in Pensacola, FL. He passed away on June 25, 1995. As a young girl, Ruth would perform in dancing exhibitions and worked at sewing cloth tops for convertible automobiles. She later became a homemaker for her family. Ruth lived in Lincoln, NE, where she was a member of the East Ridge Presbyterian Church. She moved to Mankato in 2001 to be near her sons family. Ruth was a past member of the Grey Ladies and the Navy Wives Club. She enjoyed ballroom dancing, horse training, and volunteering for the Red Cross and for various church functions.
Ruth is survived by her son and his wife, Michael and Karen Mitchell of North Mankato; three grandchildren and their spouses, Becky and Ryan Kahl of Gaylord, Kyle and Sarah Schweim of Mankato, Kirk and Vicki Schweim of Mankato; four great-grandchildren, MacKenzie, Lindsey, Tyler, and Ashley Schweim.
She was preceded in death by her father, August Hutchins, her mother, Nellie Hutchins who lived to be 104 years old, and her husband, Walter Mitchell.
