Darrel Duane Jones, age 82, of Lake Crystal, died Friday morning, January 21, 2005 at Immanuel " St. Josephs Hospital in Mankato.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday at the First Presbyterian Church in Lake Crystal with Rev. Randal Lubbers officiating. Burial with military honors will be in the Lake Crystal Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 " 7 p.m. Monday at the Lake Crystal Mortuary. Visitation continues one hour before services at the church in Tuesday.

Darrel was born July 26, 1922 in Garden City Township to Clayton H. and Mona (Moody) Jones. He grew up in Judson Township and graduated from Lake Crystal High School. He served with the U.S. Army from 1944 to 1946 in the Red Arrow Infantry division in Luzon, Philippine Islands and later in occupied Japan. On April 19, 1947 he married Katherine Bowen and together they raised six children and farmed in Judson Township until 1986. He was a long time member of the First Presbyterian Church and a former elder of Carmel Presbyterian Church. He was also a member of the Lake Crystal American Legion Post #294. He enjoyed playing cards, bowling, softball, and spending time with family and friends.

Darrel is survived by his wife of 57 years, Katherine; six children, Doreen Rick of Mason City, IA, Duane Jones of Lake Crystal, Myron (Susan) Jones of Champlin, Gloria Jones of Montrose, Lynn (Al) Windschitl of New Ulm, LeAnn Jones and special friend, Ray Flynn of LeCenter; nine grandchildren, Nellie and Steve Scheurer, Tammy and Curt Pacholke, Katie, Bob, and Andy Jones, Lee, Krista, and Kyle Windschitl, Ben Jones and fianc, Jennifer Woitas; five great-grandchildren, Katelind Jensen, Steve, Brooklyn, Tristan and Teagan Scheurer; one brother, Herb (Miriam) Jones of Lake Crystal, one sister, Ruby (Chuck) Wiggins of Longview, WA; four sisters-in-laws, Bev Jones, VaLaine (Jiggs) Larson, Viva Bowen, and Helen Chirpich; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Don, Bill, and Wally; two sisters, Ruth Jones and Audrey Walters.
