Rose Mathilda Mary Huschka Austin, age 87 of North Mankato, died Monday, January 17, 2005 at Immanuel-St. Josephs Mayo Hospital in Mankato, as the result of pneumonia.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 22, 2005 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, North Mankato. Burial will be in Worthington Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Mankato Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. Memorials are preferred to the American Diabetes Association.
Rose was born in Wilmont, MN on October 6, 1917. She was the daughter of Ferdinand and Rosalia (Koessler) Huschka. She attended schools in St. Kilian and Worthington, MN. Rose was united in marriage to Leo Austin in 1940. She was a homemaker and enjoyed raising her family of six children. She worked at St. Marys School and Worthington Hospital in Worthington. Rose moved to Hilton Head Island in October of 1980, then to Mankato in 1983.
She is survived by three daughters, Joan and Arnoldus Gruter of Mankato, Janice and Tom Murray of Bloomington, and Mary and Kimberly Crofts of Panama; two sons, Les and Lynda Austin of Pensacola, FL, and Lynn and Darla Austin of Mankato; a daughter-in-law, Lenora Austin of Tucson, AZ; two sisters, Anna Holzmer of Hastings and Agnes Crippen of Loves Park, IL; thirteen grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren.
Rose was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leo; one son, Larry; one granddaughter, Sarah Austin; one great-grandson, Lucas Sonnek; three sisters, Amelia Burley, Jo Rosburg, and Tina Kuemper.
