Wonderful wife, companion, and loving parent, Helen Margaret Ganey, age 80 of North Mankato, passed away Sunday, January 16, 2005 at Immanuel " St. Josephs Hospital in Mankato.
A celebration of Helens life with her family will be on Thursday, January 20, 2005 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Mankato Lutheran Home Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Mankato Lutheran Home or the Harry Meyering Center.
Helen Margaret Ganey was born June 24, 1924 to John and Alice (Whalen) Ryan in Streator, IL. She graduated in 1947 from the College of St. Teresa in Winona, MN. Helen was united in marriage to Raymond P. Ganey on June 25, 1949 in Evanston, IL. They lived in Chicago for 13 years before moving to Evanston, IL where they lived for 34 years. She worked as a secretary for Consumer Health Group and later was an administrative assistant for the Evanston Chamber of Commerce. In 1995 they moved to the Mankato area.
Helen greatly enjoyed watching birds, reading, the use of language, music, travel, nature, camping, the changing seasons, spring lace, and playing in her gardens. She loved letter writing and all who received her correspondence derived great pleasure.
In later years, Helen bravely and courageously struggled with many health issues. She was lovingly and gently cared for by the staff of the Mankato Lutheran Home.
Helen left us at midnight on a cold, starry night. Helen is survived by her husband Raymond of North Mankato; five children, John (Peg) Ganey of Mankato, Joseph (Lisa) Ganey of Flagstaff, AZ, Anne Ganey and her husband, Mark Anderson of Mankato, Cathy (Jack) Lauer of North Mankato, Steve (Sandra) Ganey of Portland, OR; nine grandchildren; two brothers, Rev. Francis J. Ryan of East Peoria, IL, Rev. William A. Ryan of Spring Valley, IL; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, and two brothers.
