Joseph P. Zamarripa, age 80, of Mankato, formerly of West St. Paul, MN died Wednesday, January 12, 2005 at Immanuel-St. Josephs Hospital, Mankato.
Mass of Christian Burial 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 18, 2005 at St. Josephs Catholic Church, West St. Paul, MN, with Rev. Curtis Wehmeyer officiating. Interment in Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis. Visitation from 9 to 10:30 Tuesday at church.
Memorials may be given to the Alzheimers Association. Mankato Mortuary in charge of arrangements.
Joseph was born June 22, 1924 in New Braunfels, Texas to Martin and Josefa (Perez) Zamarripa and moved to Fisher, MN as a young boy. He joined the U. S. Army during World War II and served in Germany. Joseph was united in marriage to Anna Romero on September 2, 1950 in Mason City, IA. They lived in West St. Paul, where Joseph worked for Armour & Co. for over 30 years. Anna died in July of 1997 and Joseph moved to Mankato that year to be near his daughter. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Mankato and a former member of St. Josephs Catholic Church in West St. Paul. Joseph was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, Gallagher-Hansen V.F.W. Post 295 of So. St. Paul. He enjoyed spending time with his wife, daughter and other family members. Joseph also enjoyed volunteering his time with the Special Olympics.
Joseph is survived by a daughter, Evette Zamarripa-Ingvalson and her husband Gary of rural Mankato; two grandchildren, Liza and Drew Ingvalson; a sister, Juanita Luna of Tucson, AZ; nephews, nieces, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his wife, three brothers and four sisters.
