Sister Mary Cyril Polaszek, School Sister of Notre Dame, age 102, died Tuesday, December 21, 2004, at Good Counsel Convent, Mankato, Minnesota. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Friday at Good Counsel Chapel, with Fr. Ted Hottinger, SJ, as celebrant. Visitation is from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday at Good Counsel, with Vespers in the chapel at 7:00 p.m. Visitation is also one hour prior to the funeral on Friday. Mankato Mortuary is in charge.
Sister Mary Cyril (Elizabeth Polaszek) was born in Parkston, South Dakota, on April 8, 1902 to Joseph and Anna (Fritza) Polaszek. She entered the School Sisters of Notre Dame in Mankato in 1918 and took First Vows in 1922. She taught for over 50 years, principally as a junior high teacher, in schools in Minnesota and South Dakota. Over those years she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education from Mount Mary College, Milwaukee. After her years of classroom teaching, Sister came to the Motherhouse where she helped in the library until her retirement in her late 90s.
Sister Mary Cyril is survived by nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, by five sisters and by five brothers.
