Lyle J. Colwill, age 54 of Wells died Thursday, December 16, 2004 at the V.A. Hospital in Minneapolis.
Funeral service 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Mankato Mortuary, Mankato, MN, with Pastor Joe Ocker officiating. Burial in Pilgrims Rest Cemetery. Visitation on Monday from 4-7 p.m. at Mankato Mortuary and one hour before services at the mortuary on Tuesday.
Lyle was born October 12, 1950 in Sioux Falls, SD to Clarence and Bertha (Peterson) Colwill. He was a sergeant in the U. S Army serving from 1968 to 1970, with a tour of duty in Vietnam. He was united in marriage to Vickie Lee OConnor on August 23, 1975 in Mankato.
Lyle was involved as a house parent at a group home, with Jail and Prison ministry, and was a volunteer Hospice Chaplain. He was a certified instructor for Prison Fellowship, training volunteers and also worked with Transition Aftercare Network and the Tar Roanoke Chaplaincy (dedicated to reaching prisoners with the gospel). He was an ordained minister with the Independent Assembly of God and participated in numerous ministries including, the Discipleship Training Center, Abide in Him Ministries, and TV broadcast seminars. Lyle was also a retreat speaker. Lyle was employed in the steel and misc. metals as a design detailer/ estimator, working at Jones Metal Products, Mankato, Weldon Steel Inc., in North Carolina and as an independent contractor for several firms.
He is survived by his wife, Vickie Colwill of Wells; two sons, Ronald (Melissa) Colwill of Wells, Robert (Kristine) Colwill of Los Gatos, CA; a daughter, Roxanne (Pete) Traxler of Mankato; five grandchildren, Caleb, Abby, Elijah, Isaac and Riley; two brothers, Dene (Clara) Colwill of Grand Prairie, TX, Delwyn (Sandy) Colwill of South Haven, MN; two sisters, Belva (Roger) Star of Rapid City, SD, Marlene (Jerry) Ross of Sioux Falls, SD; three sisters-in-law, JoAnn Colwill of Ft. Lupton, CO, Sherryl Colwill of Altoona, IA, Mary Ann Thomas of Dundas; brother-in-law, Pat (Isabell) OConnor of Minneapolis; nephews, nieces and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Bertha Colwill; two brothers, Willis and Bernie Colwill.
