Roman A. Haefner, age 92, of Mankato, died Thursday evening, December 2, 2004 at his home with his family present. Roman, a father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, will be remembered by family and friends as a kind, gentle and generous man.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 1:00 p.m., Monday at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Mankato, with Rev. Ted Hottinger, S.J. officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Sunday at Mankato Mortuary, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Visitation continues on Monday one hour before services at the church. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to Immanuel-St. Joseph Hospice Program.
Roman was born in St. Clair on July 10, 1912 to Conrad and Magdalena (Drummer) Haefner. On September 25, 1936 Roman was united in marriage to Angeline Frederick at All Saints Catholic Church, Madison Lake. He was employed by the School Sisters of Notre Dame for 46 years, retiring at the age of 69. Roman was a life-long member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, music, sports and playing cards with members of his family.
Roman is survived by his four children, a daughter, Lois Prange and her husband Du Wayne of Faribault; three sons, Leon Haefner of Northfield, Dean Haefner and Dale Haefner both of Mankato; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Marcella Thissen of Mankato, Loretta Bobbie Frederick of North Mankato, Lucille Becker and her husband, Ken of San Andreas, CA, Lorraine Sparky Sleeper and her husband, Ralph of Mankato; two sisters-in-law, Agnes Frederick of Waseca, Valeria Frederick of Madison Lake, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Roman was preceded in death by his wife, Angeline, two brothers and two sisters.
