Charlotte Marie (Malecha) Pleiss passed away on Friday, August 8, 2008 at the Pathstone Living Care Facility after an extended illness with emphysema.
Charlotte was born on November 11, 1930 to Agnes and August Malecha. She was the second oldest child among two brothers and four sisters. The Malecha family made their home in Waseca, where many of Charlotte's siblings still reside. Charlotte married Ernie Pleiss, Sr. on June 23, 1951. Together they raised seven children. Char and Ernie lived in Janesville and Hutchinson, before finally making 912 Reed Street in Mankato the family home.
The family remembers the great pride Mom took in making a home for her husband and seven children. Charlotte was a great cook. She enjoyed baking pies, cookies, and breads from scratch. She loved big family gatherings where there was a lot of card playing, joking, and laughing. Char worked hard during her life yet enjoyed simple pleasures such as Yahtzee, Word Search Puzzles and Pfeffer. She also loved camping, parades, polka dances, and the Card Club Ladies. Charlotte especially enjoyed visits with her 13 grandchildren and the joy they brought to her life.
Charlotte worked as a waitress for many years at the Mankato Golf and Country Club. It was there she met Lowell and Nadine Andreas who convinced her to become their full time housekeeper. She held this position until ill health forced her to retire. Char was very fond of the Andreas family and greatly appreciated their generosity toward her and Ernie.
In later years, Charlotte suffered from emphysema. Ernie, her husband of 57 years, faithfully supported her throughout her declining health. Most importantly, Charlotte maintained her faith in her Savior Jesus Christ until the very end.
