Galen John Hall, age 86 of Mankato died Sunday, July 13, 2008 at Immanuel-St. Joseph's Hospital in Mankato.
Funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church with Rev. Al Girtz officiating. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at Mankato Mortuary and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Burial will be on Thursday at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.
Galen John Hall was born December 1, 1921 in Garner, Iowa to Lena (Dietz) and George Mandus Hall. He was baptized at Ellington Prairie Lutheran Church in Miller, IA. He graduated from high school in Garner, Iowa and received his Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Education from Iowa State University in 1943. He served in WWII in Okinawa as Captain US Marine Corps with the 1st Marine Ammo Company from 1942-1946. He was employed at Lowell Hoyt in Fort Dodge, IA from 1950-1957, Consumers' Coop (later Farmland) in Eagle Grove, IA from 1957-1971, and Farmland Industries in Mankato, MN from 1971-1986.
On February 5, 1944, he was united in marriage to Mary Ann Booth in San Diego, California. He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Mankato and was a Lions Club member for over 50 years. He participated in the local Jaycees, was a 10 year volunteer for Hospice, a life member of the American Legion, and was involved with the China Marine Association. He enjoyed bowling, golfing, and gardening. During his travels, he attended 25 Elderhostels from 1986-2000. He followed and supported the activities of his children and grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann Hall of Mankato; three children, Janet Roseland (Dennis) of Clearwater, FL, Peggy Beatty (Marion) of Decorah, IA, and Roger Hall (Gayle) of Fleming Island, FL; nine grandchildren, Chad Roseland, Troy Roseland, Ben Beatty, Laura Beatty Newton (husband Sam), Jeffrey Beatty, David Hasty, Will Graham, Galen D. Hall, and Walker Hall; siblings, Harold Hall (Gladys) of California, Doris Juhl (Marvin) of Forest City, IA, Myrtle Yanacek (Merle) of Cedar Rapids, IA, Leonard Hall (Donna) of Maine; sisters-in-law, Marge Hall of Garner, IA, and Jacqueline Hennager Schmitz of Monroe, WI; brother-in-law Jerry Booth (Mary) of Des Moines, IA; numerous nieces and nephews. Galen was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Merle Hall.
