Harold M. Severson, age 93, of North Mankato, passed away on Saturday July 5, 2008 at Oaklawn Health Care Center.
Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday July 9 at Peace Lutheran Church in North Mankato with Rev. Brad Kerkow officiating. Visitation will be on Tuesday, July 8 from 4-6 p.m. at Mankato Mortuary. Burial will be held at Woodland Hills Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Peace Lutheran Church or the donor's choice.
Harold was born on November 15, 1914 at the family farm in Medo Township, Blue Earth County. His parents were John C. and Cleo M. Severson. He was baptized and confirmed at the Medo Lutheran Church. He attended both elementary and high school in Pemberton, graduating in 1932. He helped his brother run the family farm for a couple years, but had to give up farming because of his health. He sold fire extinguishers and was a Fuller Brush salesman in 1936. He finished a calculator course at the Mankato Commercial College. He was employed at the Merchants Motor Freight in St. Paul from July 1937 to October 15, 1944. He was the General Claim Agent when he left Merchants. He later was the Paymaster at the Nicollet Hotel in Minneapolis. He moved back to Mankato in 1945 and started the Severson Real Estate Co. He married Ruth Krinke in 1946 and together they owned and operated the Severson Real Estate Co. until their retirement in 2000. They spent parts of 54 winters in Arizona. Harold was the past President of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, a charter member of Word of Life Lutheran Church in Mankato and at the time of his death he was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in North Mankato.
Harold leaves to mourn his wife, Ruth, nieces, Carol (Gary) Voight of Zimmerman and Phyllis Severson of Woodbury, and nephew, John (Margaret) Severson of Princeton. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Paul Severson.
