Lorin Bergemann, 94 of Good Thunder, was surrounded by wife and family when he peacefully left this world to be with God on July 3, 2008. He died at Oaklawn Healthcare Center in Mankato.
Funeral Service will be held Tuesday July 8th, 2008 at 2:00PM at St. John Lutheran Church in Good Thunder with Rev. Rudolph Maurer, Jr. officiating. Visitation will be two hours prior to service at the church. Following the service, burial will be at Valley View Cemetery, Good Thunder, with military rites. Mankato Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be given to St. John Lutheran Church, Good Thunder, The Lutheran Hour, or V.I.N.E.
He was born August 28, 1913 in Lyra Township. Parents were J.F. Bergemann and Wilhelmina "Minnie" Huhnholz. He attended Dunwoody Institute and then worked at Vultee Aircraft in California. He served in the U.S. Navy from February 13, 1942 until December 4, 1945. Lorin was in the European Theater during World War II as a tailgunner aboard a B-24 Liberator doing anti-submarine patrol. He married Luverne Bluhm September 19, 1948 at Redeemer Lutheran Church. They lived on their farm near Good Thunder their entire married life. During his life, Lorin worked both as a farmer and served the postal service as a rural letter carrier for 24 years. He was a lifetime member of St. John Lutheran Church in Good Thunder, Good Thunder American Legion and Mankato VFW. Lorin had a strong faith in God and loved his family and country. He enjoyed fishing, camping, blueberry picking up north and telling stories with all of his many friends.
He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 60 years, Luverne, and their six children. Curtis (Marylu) of Peck, KS; Dennis (Lee) of Janesville, MN; Gary (Lori) of Fairmont, MN; Rita Jenkins (Kevin), Benita Lefebvre (Kevin), both of Elk River, MN; Lynn (Denise) of Garden City, MN; 13 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Irene Koberg and Frieda Kruse; one brother Edwin (Edna); three sister-in-laws, Anna Bluhm, Lorraine Schultz, JoAnn Bergemann and many nieces and nephews. Lorin was preceded in death by his parents, siblings and one grandchild.
