Mike Pietan
Mike (Ervin Michael) Pietan, age 68, of Mankato, died peacefully on Wednesday, June 25, 2008 at Immanuel St. Joseph's in Mankato after living with ALS for 22 years.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 28, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at Hosanna Lutheran Church, Mankato with Rev. Steve Kosberg. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Friday, June 27 at Mankato Mortuary and one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday. Burial will be at Woodland Hills Memorial Park, Mankato. Mike was born August 7, 1939 to Ervin Pietan and Pearl Michael in Minneapolis, MN. He attended high school in Spencer, IA and Fairmont, MN. He married Pam Haeckel on August 27, 1961 in Fairmont. Mike worked at a variety of occupations before graduating from Mankato State University with majors in Business, Accounting, and Economics. He was a training manager at Tradehome Shoes for 25 years. After retiring from Tradehome, he purchased the Oleander Saloon/What's Up Lounge and Easton Bar. He was a member of the Hosanna Lutheran Church. Mike's interests included Pool/Darts, music, growing roses, easy-weekend projects around home, hunting with his Dad, brothers and friends, and being with family. He considered himself Jack-of-all-trades and Master of none, but Oh! how he loved life.
He is survived by his wife Pam of 47 years; daughter, Paige (Mike) Marren and their children, Nicholas, Megan, Samantha, and Connor of Oakdale; daughter, Julie (John) Hennek and their children, Matthew, Sarah, Adam, Joshua, and Rebekah of St. Clair; son, Mike (Laura Hanson) and their children, Sophia and Lilyanna of St. Paul; siblings, Jerry (Mary) Pietan of Jacksonville, FL, Jim (Kim) Pietan of Nicollet, Julie (Jake) Theisen of Sioux City, Steve (Elaine) Rasmussen of Sioux City, and Pat Rasmussen of North Mankato; step-mother, Irene Pietan of Mankato; uncle, Norman Pietan of Mankato; mother-in-law, Iva Haeckel of Fairmont; brother-in-law, Warren (Lois) Haeckel of Armstrong, IA; sister-in-law, Deb (Mike) Krumholz of Woodstock, IL; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his mother and step-father, Pearl and Arnie Rasmussen of Sioux City; father, Ervin of Wells; father-in-law, Warren Haeckel of Fairmont; sister-in-law, Sherry Bentz of Truman; aunt and uncle, Nina and Warren Musser of Fairmont; niece, Stacey Rasmussen; and aunts and uncles from Missouri.
