Carlton A. "Carl" Bindner, age 84 of North Mankato, died Tuesday, June 24, 2008 at Benedictine Living Community, in St. Peter.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m., Friday, June 27, 2008 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in North Mankato with Rev. Peter Nosbush officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Mankato. Visitation will be held from 4 " 8 p.m., Thursday at Mankato Mortuary with a 7:30 p.m., prayer service. Visitation continues one hour before the service at the church on Friday. Memorials to the donor's choice are preferred.
Carl was born December 14, 1923 in Sioux City, Iowa to Bernard J. and Florence (Fuchs) Bindner. He attended high school in Sioux City, Iowa. He served in the U.S. Army as an armored vehicle mechanic in World War II in the Pacific Theater and was discharged in 1946 with the rank of Technical Sergeant, 1st class. He attended Mankato Technical Institute and was certified as an automobile technician. In Mankato he worked at Central Motors, Dalton Motors, Nelson Pontiac Cadillac, and at Heintz Auto, retiring in 1988. He was a life member of Morson Ario VFW, a member of American Legion Post #11, Mankato, and a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church. He married Margaret "Peg" L. (Crawford) Nelsen, July 9, 1988 in Mankato. He had been a resident of Mankato since 1946. Carl was a world traveler and spent many hours sailing his boat on Lake Washington.
Survivors include his wife, Peg; sister, Imogene Williams of Mankato; sister-in-law, Peg Bindner of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; two step-children, Jay (Lisa) Nelsen of North Mankato and Jill Nelsen of Somerville, Massachusetts; step-granddaughter, Ruby Nelsen and step-grandson, Chris Oachs of Mankato; ten nieces and nephews.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Robert, Ralph, and Jim.
