The family of Thomas Ora Anderson, Mankato, would like you to join them in celebrating his life. Tom passed away at the age of 58, on Saturday, November 13th at Immanuel St. Josephs Hospital with an unbelievable display of courage after a short battle with cancer. Visitation will be at the Mankato Mortuary from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, November 17th. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, November 18th at Centenary United Methodist Church in Mankato with lunch to follow.
Tom was born September 26, 1946 in Mankato to Duane and Shirley (Honetschlager) Anderson. He graduated from Mankato High School in 1964 and received his degree in Parks and Recreation from Mankato State College after a 4 year tour with the United States Marine Corps which included Vietnam. He found his soul mate, Joslin Waldo and married her on February 14, 1970.
Tom was a proud but humble veteran, a non-judgmental community leader and 30 year employee of the Mankato Area Public Schools. He supported and collaborated with many local organizations and programs including Early Childhood Family Education, The Summit Center, K+ Program, All Seasons Arena, Ducks Unlimited and many others. Tom was a passionate lover of the outdoors, a spirited pursuer of waterfowl and an ardent chaser of striped bass on Cape Cod. Tom believed that sitting in the marsh or surfcasting on the beach was the experience, not whether any game was brought home.
Tom will be thought of, loved and remembered by his wife, Joslin of Mankato; his children, Todd D. Anderson (wife, Alicia Sellie, granddaughters, Hannah and Sara Anderson), Jennifer J. Anderson, Benjamin Thomas Anderson all of Minneapolis; his mother, Shirley (Anderson) Rossel and husband James of Hope, MN; mother-in-law, Gretchen Waldo of Mankato; brother-in-law, David L. Waldo and wife, Denise of Minneapolis; sister-in-law, Mary Waldo of Marlborough, MA; several aunts, uncles, cousins and relatives.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to Mankato Area Public Schools (designate K+ Program Scholarships, Adult Basic Education or Early Childhood Family Education) or The Summit Center.
