Marcella Alma Menten, age 83 of North Mankato died Thursday, November 11, 2004 at Immanuel-St. Josephs Hospital.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Pauls Evangelical Lutheran Church in North Mankato with Rev. Gary Wong officiating. Burial will be in Pilgrims Rest Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3-6 p.m. Sunday at Mankato Mortuary and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Monday. Memorials are preferred to St. Pauls Evangelical Lutheran Church or to an organization of the donors choice.
Marcella was born September 21, 1921 in Mankato to Herman and Florence (Jesse) Zastrow. She graduated from Mankato High School and attended Gustavus Adolphus College for two years. On July 18, 1942, she married Peter W. Menten at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Mankato. Marcella worked as a nutrition expert at Mankato West High School for 14 years. She was a very active member of St. Pauls Evangelical Lutheran Church, the Ladies Aid, Mary Ruth Circle, and sang in the church choir for over 20 years. She enjoyed needlework. Marcella and Peter enjoyed their summers on Four Point Lake. Most important in Marcellas life were her family, her friends, and her faith.
Survivors include her husband, Peter Menten of North Mankato; three children, Dale Menten and wife, Ruth of Excelsior, Donna James and husband, Tom of New Prague, Dean Menten of Plymouth; three granddaughters, Deb (Mark) Kasner of Medina, Heather (Bob) Lyons of Minnetonka, Tammy (Brian) Anderson of St. Louis Park; two grandsons, Tony James of River Falls, Wisconsin, Eric (Deedee) Menten of Brooklyn Park; 11 great-grandchildren, Audrianna and Emily Menten; Rachel, Virginia, and Andrew Lyons; Nick, Leah, Maggie and Hannah Kasner; Dylan and Abby James; a sister-in-law, Hulda Williams of Pine Island; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Dianne Marie (July 23, 1958) and a grandson, Michael.
