Let it be joyfully proclaimed that Delmer Matthew Gibson glorified his Father while here on earth, finished his labors, and entered eternal life on Sunday, November 7, 2004 at his home in rural Mankato.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Grace Lutheran Church with Rev. Joel Erickson officiating. Burial will be in Mound Cemetery in LeSueur. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at Mankato Mortuary and one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday. Memorials are preferred to an organization of the donors choice.

Delmer was born April 18, 1923 in St. James to William and Alice (Gallup) Gibson. He graduated from LeSueur High School in 1941 and Gustavus Adolphus College in 1950 after serving in the Army Air Corps during WWII in the 8th Air Force.

He married Betty L. Nuessmeier on October 15, 1948 at Zions Evangelical and Reformed Church in LeSueur. They lived in LeSueur until moving to Mankato in 1951. Delmer worked for Norwest Bank in Mankato until his retirement in 1985.

Delmer was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church, American Legion Post 11, and the Caledonia Curling Club. Delmer sold tickets at Mankato West and East sporting events. He enjoyed playing golf, was a sports enthusiast, and attended his grandchildrens activities. He also enjoyed woodworking, making many pieces of furniture for family members, and was always eager to help with various projects for family and friends.

Delmer is survived by his wife, Betty Gibson of Mankato; six children and their spouses all from the Mankato area, David and Darcy Gibson, Stephen and Karen Gibson, Jennifer and Jerry Pischke, Matthew and Linda Gibson, Mary and Robert McDonald, Laurie and Gene Horning; seventeen grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three sisters, Bernice Rickard of Loveland, CO, Shannon Stangler of Waterville, MN, Mary Etta and husband, Robert Pearson of Black River Falls, WI; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter, Juanita Ann; three brothers; and one sister.
