Irene Smith

Irene Smith, age 88, of Mankato, died Wednesday, November 3, 2004 at Oaklawn Health Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Mankato Mortuary with Rev. Jim Dye officiating. Burial will be in Basey United Methodist Church Cemetery in rural Winnebago. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at Mankato Mortuary on Saturday.

Irene was born July 13, 1916 in Winnebago to Jay and Leona (Hartman) Stratton. She grew up and attended school in rural Winnebago. Irene married Raymond Holland in 1933 in Winnebago and later divorced. She married Forest Smith in 1971 and he died in 2003. Irene worked at Madsens Super Valu, Mankato Teachers College Cafeteria, Fisher Clothing, Tupperware Sales and at many other part-time jobs.

Irene was a generous woman to all who knew her. She will be remembered for her sunny ways, her excellent cooking, and her love of family and friends.

Irene is survived by her daughter and her husband, Laetetia Tish and Clifford Schulze of Little Canada; two sons and their wives, Joe and Mary Holland of Mankato, Jim and Mary Holland of Burnsville; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Forest.
