Richard Lyle Johnson, age 77 of rural Eagle Lake, died Friday, September 24, 2004 at Immanuel"St. Josephs Hospital in Mankato.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 29, 2004 at Grace Lutheran Church in Mankato with Rev. Joel Erickson officiating. Burial will be in Greenhill Cemetery in St. Peter, MN. Visitation will be held from 4"7 p.m., Tuesday at Mankato Mortuary and will continue one hour before services on Wednesday at the church. Memorials may be given to the donors choice.
Richard Johnson was born August 10, 1927 to Luther and Annis (Hill) Johnson in Detroit Lakes, MN. He was united in marriage to Genevieve Eccles on September 12, 1950 at Grace Lutheran Church in Mankato. Richard served his country from 1950 to 1952 in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He returned to the Mankato area and farmed. In 1965, he went to work for the United States Postal Service and worked until he retired in 1990. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, life member of VFW Post 950, and the DAV #10 of Mankato. He was a member of the Eagle Lake American Legion Post 617 and the Mankato Eagles Club 269. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, and playing cards.
Richard is survived by his wife, Genevieve of rural Eagle Lake; three sons, Luther (Pam) Johnson of rural Mankato, Russel (Lucy) Johnson of New Richland, MN, Randall (Michelle) Johnson of Mansfield, TX; daughter, Mavis Johnson-Gieser and Greg George of Janesville; honorary son, Makoto Noguchi of Japan; eight grandchildren, Shane (Tanya Butson) Johnson, Nikki (Troy Magers) Johnson, Beth (Jeremy) Hoffman, Lowell (Mary Baker) Johnson, Shanon, Chelsey, Brianna, and Jamie Johnson; four step-grandchildren, Eric (Melissa) Geisthardt, Tara Geisthardt, Robert & Brooke Cassell; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters, Letha Kramer of Armour, SD, Burnett Perkins of Yakima, WA; two brothers, Robert Johnson of Mankato, Grant (Mary) Johnson of Austin; many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, infant son, one great-grandson, one sister, and two brothers.
