Roy F. Bartholomew, age 86, of Mankato, died Thursday, September 23, 2004 at Immanuel-St. Josephs Hospital in Mankato. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, September 27, 2004 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Mankato, with Rev. James Pragman officiating. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. on Sunday at Mankato Mortuary, and continues one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Interment will be in Woodland Hills Memorial Park. Memorials may be given to Our Saviors Lutheran Church, the American Heart Association, or to an organization of the donors choice.
Roy was born on January 8, 1918 in Garfield, MN. He was the son of William and Sophie (Fried) Bartholomew. Roy served in the U.S. 5th Air Force from May 1942 to Sept. 1945 in the Pacific Theater. He was united in marriage to Karoline Hohnwaldt on June 5, 1949 in Garfield. In 1951, they moved to Mankato, where Roy would graduate from Mankato Vo-Tech in appliance repair. He was employed with Gambles and Tempo, both in Mankato. Roy later worked as a boiler technician with Mankato Citizens Telephone Co., retiring in 1984. He was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church since 1951, the American Legion Post 11, VFW Morson-Ario, charter member of MN Deer Hunters Assn. Riverbend Chapter, and the Key City Conservation Club. Roy enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing, and reading.
Roy is survived by his wife, Karoline of Mankato; two daughters, Bonnie (Warren) Windschitl of North Mankato, Becky (Tim) Bjorgum of White Bear Lake; three grandchildren, Michael (Angela) LaCroix-Fralish, Jessica and Brian Bjorgum; two step-grandchildren, Amber and Anthony Windschitl; one sister, Florence Hiebel; one brother, Lester (Marlyn) Bartholomew, all of Alexandria; also nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers and two sisters.
