Irvin Jans, age 84, of Mankato, died Saturday, September 11, 2004 at Immanuel-St. Josephs Hospital in Mankato.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Pauls Evangelical Lutheran Church with Pastor Gary Wong officiating. Burial will be in Pilgrims Rest Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Monday at Mankato Mortuary and one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday. Memorials are preferred to St. Pauls Ev. Lutheran Church or to an organization of the donors choice.
Irvin Lawrence Jans was born December 18, 1919 in McPherson Township, Blue Earth County to Julius and Dora (Lamp) Jans. He attended school in Pemberton and graduated from Mapleton High School. He entered the United States Army in 1942 and was honorably discharged in 1945. On November 7, 1946, he married Darlene Hinrichs in St. Clair and made their home in Mankato.
Irvin worked for over 38 years for Hubbard Milling Company and retired in 1983. He was a member of St. Pauls Ev. Lutheran Church, American Legion Post 11, and VFW Post 950. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, and horseshoes.
He is survived by his wife Darlene of Mankato; three daughters and their husbands, Judy and Roger Hoskins of Sebring, FL, Jan and Robert Shaw of Mankato, Joan and Keith Strayer of Somonauk, IL; six grandchildren, Tina (Brian) Holcombe, Tiffany Gannon, Rachel and Katie Shaw, Tara and Aaron Strayer; two great-grandsons, Zachary Gannon, Blake Holcombe; one sister, Ethel Krengel and husband, Otto of Mapleton; one brother, Donald Jans and wife, Nina of Mankato; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Harold and Vern; and a sister, Arlene.
