Harriett Maryan James, age 79, of Champlin and formerly of Mankato, died Tuesday, May 2, 2006 at her home.
Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, May 8, 2006 at Bethel Baptist Church in Mankato with Rev. David Banfield, officiating. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Mankato. Visitation will be from 2-5 p.m. Sunday at Mankato Mortuary and will continue one hour before service at church on Monday.
Harriett was born on September 1, 1926, in Duluth, Minnesota, to Edgar and Gladys (Sutten) Kauffmann. She was a 1944 graduate of Mankato High School. She was united in marriage to Hugh James on July 15, 1951 in Mason City, Iowa. Prior to her marriage she owned Kaufmann Taxi Company and also worked for Montgomery Wards. After her marriage she was a homemaker for her family. Harriett was a member of Bethel Baptist Church, the Ladies of the Moose, and a former Rebecca member. She enjoyed ceramics, volunteering at thrift stores, reading, and playing cards.
Harriett is survived by three children, Cheryl James and Ronald Scholzen of Champlin, Joel James of Mankato, Scott (Wendy) James of Mankato; daughter-in-law, Jan Clegs of Portland, OR; 18 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh in 1986; and a son, Tam in 1992.
