Lawrence W Filter

Lawrence W. Larry Filter, age 63 of North Mankato died Sunday, September 5, 2004 of cancer at Immanuel-St. Josephs Hospital.

Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Pauls Evangelical Lutheran Church, North Mankato, with Rev. Gary Wong officiating. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 5-8 p.m. at Mankato Mortuary and one hour before services at church on Wednesday. Memorials may be given to St. Pauls Ev. Lutheran Church or the donors choice.

Lawrence was born March 3, 1941 in rural Wonewoc, WI to Ronald and Liberty (Nemec) Filter. He graduated from Hillsboro, WI High School in 1959. He graduated in 1964 from the University of Wisconsin, Platteville, with a Civil Engineering Degree. He was employed by the Minnesota Highway Dept. for over 40 years as a Civil Engineer.

He was united in marriage to Margaret Burch in 1964, they later divorced. He married Deborah A. James on June 23, 1972 in North Mankato. He enjoyed traveling, having visited 48 states and 4 European countries. He loved nature, especially bird watching and being outdoors. Larry loved taking pictures. He studied genealogy, tracing some of his family to 1644. He was a member of St. Pauls Ev. Lutheran Church, where he had been past secretary and president. Larry was also a member and officer of the Mankato Bird Club and of the Circle 8 Square Dancing Club. He was loved by his family.

Lawrence is survived by his wife, Debbie Filter; a son Kevin (Susie) Filter of Mankato; three daughters, Kathleen (Duane) Roberts of Winona, Laura Filter of Berkeley, CA and Lisa (Joel Martin) Filter of Minneapolis; three grandchildren, Heather & Dustin Roberts, and Grace Filter; a brother, Roger (Mary Beth) Filter of LaVista, NE; a sister, Judy (John) Anderson of LaFarge, WI; step-mother, Mary Filter of Hillsboro, WI; a nephew and three nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
