MSU Economics Professor, Dr. Steven Ray Hickerson, age 52, of Mankato, was called home after a brief battle with cancer on Wednesday, September 1, 2004 at Immanuel-St. Josephs Hospital in Mankato.
A memorial service will be held 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church with Pastor Paul Meierding officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday. Inurnment will be at a later date in Blue Mound Cemetery in Milford, NE. Memorials are preferred to the American Cancer Society or to a favorite charity. Mankato Mortuary is handling arrangments.
Steven was born in Lincoln, NE on August 9, 1952, and was baptized and confirmed into the Christian faith at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Lincoln. He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1970, earned a bachelors degree from the University of Nebraska in 1974, and received his Ph.D. in Economics at UNL in 1980. Steven moved to Mankato in 1980 and joined the faculty at Minnesota State University Department of Economics. He enjoyed teaching and was very dedicated to his profession at MSU. Steven enjoyed leisure reading, music, movies, and the company of his friends.
Survivors include his son, Ryan Tite of Minnesota; parents, Ray and Viola Hickerson of Hemet, CA; sister, Susan (Bob) Lorenz of Lincoln, NE; uncle, Vilas Gocke of San Mateo, CA; Robert Hickerson of AZ; several very dear cousins and a host of wonderful friends.
