Morris W. Doc Sheppard, age 88, of Madison Lake, died Tuesday, August 31, 2004 at the St. Cloud Veterans Home surrounded by his family.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday at All Saints Catholic Church in Madison Lake. Burial with military honors will be in Calvary Cemetery in Madison Lake. Visitation will be from 5-7:30 p.m. Friday at All Saints Catholic Church in Madison Lake with a 7:30 p.m. prayer service. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Linn M. Sheppard Cancer Relief Fund, care of Florence Sheppard, 420 Sheppard Circle, Madison Lake, Minnesota 56063. Mankato Mortuary is handling arrangements.
Morris was born June 25, 1916 in Garden City to Samuel and Emma (Banker) Sheppard and later attended Mankato High School. He served in the United States Army during World War II and was a member of the 82nd Airborne Division. In the mid 1940s, Doc took over the family business, Point Pleasant Resort in Madison Lake. On October 6, 1948, he married Florence Schaub at All Saints Catholic Church in Madison Lake. Doc was a former mayor of Madison Lake, a member of All Saints Catholic Church, American Legion Post 269 Madison Lake, and VFW Post 950 Mankato. He assisted with starting the Madison Lake Historical Society and enjoyed politics and reading history.
Survivors include his wife, Florence Flossie Sheppard of Madison Lake; nine children, Linn (Sheryl) of Minneapolis, Jim (Marie) of Madison Lake, Kay (Don) Sweazey of Seattle, WA, Paula (Clay) Sammis of New Hampshire, Shari (Tom) Baumann of Eden Prairie, Randy (Carol) Monticello, Dan (Jodi) of Madison Lake, Jennifer Meyers of Cashmere, WA, Marsha (Ian) Pitz of Madison, WI; 19 grandchildren, Jenny Mae, Joseph, Nicole, Jamie, Katie, Jesse, Melissa, Tara, Shaun, Rachel, Sasha, Chelsea, Jason, Nichol, Trevan, Logan, Shannan, Oscar, and Alban; and a great-granddaughter, McKenna. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Mary; a grandson, Frank; two brothers and three sisters.
