Mary Elizabeth Gray, age 59, of Mankato, MN, died Sunday, August 29, 2004, at Immanuel St. Josephs Hospital in Mankato surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with cancer.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, September 3 at St. Johns Episcopal Church in Mankato, with Father Paul Rider officiating. Burial will follow at Woodland Hills Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at Mankato Mortuary Thursday, September 2 from 4-8 p.m. and one hour before services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Johns Episcopal Church, the American Cancer Society, or the March of Dimes.
Mary was born January, 11 1945 in Marshall, MN to Lloyd A. and Margaret (Gruhot) Chaput. She graduated from Marshall High School in 1963 and attended Mankato State University. On December 30, 1966, she married William Gray in Minneapolis, MN. During their marriage they lived in St. Paul, MN, Farmington, MN, Apple Valley, MN, Litchfield, MN, and Mankato, MN. She was involved in various church and service organizations, including PTO, Lioness Club, Newcomers, the Episcopal Church Women, and Cursillo. In addition to being a devoted wife and mother, she enjoyed cooking, gardening, sewing, reading, music, and spending time with her beloved grandsons.
She is survived by her husband, William of Mankato; daughter, Elizabeth and her husband, Brian Luepke of Mankato; son, Adam Gray of Mankato; grandsons, Alexander and Jonathan Luepke of Mankato; mother, Margaret Chaput of Marshall; brother, Robert (Norma) Chaput of Shoreview; sister, Marlene (Thomas) Witt of Severn, MD; sister, Ramona (Ronald) DeVries of Marshall; many nephews, nieces, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her father, Lloyd, and one nephew, Thomas Witt.
