Delight N. Schuneman, age 89, of Mankato, died Saturday, August 14, 2004 at Oaklawn Health Care Center in Mankato.
Memorial services will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday at Mankato Mortuary with Rev. Dawn Carder officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at Mankato Mortuary on Monday. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Lake City Cemetery in Lake City, Iowa with Rev. Betty Weidert officiating. Memorials are preferred to First Presbyterian Church in Mankato or American Cancer Society.
Delight was born on April 11, 1915 in Lake City, Iowa to John and Florence (Sifford) Blanchfield. She married Hurndon Schooney W. Schuneman on February 16, 1934 in Jackson, MN. They had two sons, Dick and Don.
Delight operated a caf in Yetter, Iowa, along with her husband Schooney, following his return from the US Military in WWII, for 20 years. After Schooneys death in 1962, Dee sold the business, moved to San Francisco, CA, where she owned and operated an apartment building along with working at a shop on Fishermans Wharf. After some years, she sold her property in SF and returned to the Midwest, making her home in Mankato. Always ambitious, she worked for the Country Kitchen Restaurant, Lewis Drug, and Shopko, along with helping out at the Lutheran Home.
Dee is survived by her two sons, Dick (Wanda) of Mankato, Don (Jackie) of Wilmington, IL; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; nephews, nieces, and a sister-in-law, Nora Blanchfield. Dee was preceded in death by her husband, Schooney, parents, sister, Amber and brother-in-law, Jack Sullivan, brothers and their wives, Marion and Laura, Earl and Pearl, Bernard and Audrey, Dacey and Delpha, and brothers, Phin and Virgil.
