Elsa S. Kettler, age 99, of Mankato, died Thursday evening, August 5, 2004 at Alterra Sterling House of Mankato.
Funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Monday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Mankato with Rev. Wayne Eichstadt officiating. Burial will be in Pilgrims Rest Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m., until the time of the service at the church on Monday. Memorials may be given to Immanuel Lutheran Church or ISJ Hospice. Mankato Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Elsa S. Kettler was born May 10, 1905 to Fred W. and Mina (Kluss) Kettler in Luzerne, Iowa. Her family moved to Mankato where she attended Immanuel Lutheran grade school. She graduated from Mankato High School and Mankato State Teachers College. She also studied at the University of Minnesota, Duluth, and at John Herron Art School in Indianapolis, IN. Elsa taught school in Blue Earth and Cottonwood Counties for 18 years. She taught at Mountain Lake High School for 27 years. She was instrumental in beginning the art department in Mountain Lake High School. She was a faithful member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Mankato. Elsa enjoyed many creative art activities and growing flowers and gardening.
Elsa is survived by one niece, Sandra (Jerry) Ganske of Mankato; two great-nieces, Christine Ganske of Mankato, Lisa Ganske of Nebraska; one great-great-nephew, Cole Ganske of Mankato; and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, Selma, Hilda, and Louise.
