Evelyn W. Belgard, age 89, of rural Garden City died Thursday, August 5, 2004 at her home.
Funeral service 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Garden City Christian Church, Garden City, with Rev. Dan Sanford officiating. Interment in Garden City Cemetery. Visitation on Sunday from 2-5 p.m. at Lake Crystal Mortuary and one hour before services at church on Monday.
She was born February 18, 1915 in Des Moines, Iowa to Arthur and Eva Marie (Merrill) Wilson. The family moved to the Garden City area in 1920. Evelyn graduated from Garden City High School. She was united in marriage to Harold Belgard on July 4, 1936 in Garden City. He died May 11, 1988 at his home. She worked at Hillcrest Health Care Center as a certified nursing assistant from 1963 to 1976 and from 1980 to 1988. She also worked at the Salvation Army for many years. She raised tomatoes and onions, which she took to the Farmers Market in Mankato for many years. Evelyn was a member of the Garden City Christian Church since 1931, where she had been an Elder, Deacon, Sunday School Teacher and a member of the C.W.F. She enjoyed gardening, fishing, and driving for Senior Citizens.
Mrs. Belgard is survived by three sons and their wives, Lee (Zada) Belgard of Madelia, Harlan (Janet) Belgard of Grand Rapids, Hugh (Vail) Belgard of rural Garden City; six grandchildren, Deb (Bob) Allen of Savage, Becky (Doug) Sailor of Prior Lake, Seth Belgard of Garden City, Ariane (Brad) Hawker of Kasota, Mitch (Sandy) Belgard of Altura, Kelly Fiacco of Fairport, NY; eight great grandchildren, Amanda, Brett, and Carissa Allen, Michelle and Rachel Sailor, Tony Ferra, Joseph, and Jaime Fiacco and several nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her husband, two brothers, a sister, and a nephew
