Mavis M. Nichols, age 83, of North Mankato, died Wednesday, August 4, 2004 at Oak Terrace Assisted Living in North Mankato. Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m., Sunday, August 8, 2004 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Mankato, with Rev. Mary Iverson officiating. A private family burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be 3-5 p.m. on Saturday at Mankato Mortuary, and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Sunday. Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society, the Alzheimers Association, or Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
Mavis was born on December 26, 1920 in Blue Earth. She was the daughter of Matthew and Cora (Sabin) Olson. Mavis was united in marriage to Freb Prescher on June 12, 1936 in Mason City, IA. She later married Floyd E. Nichols on June 18, 1964 in Mankato. Mavis was a homemaker, and enjoyed sewing and crocheting, traveling and camping, birds, dancing, playing cards, and especially spending time with her grandchildren. She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Mankato, where she participated in the Womens Circles, and also River of Life and the Traverse des Sioux Trailer Club.
Mavis is survived by her four daughters, Joanne Juhlin and her husband, Donald, of Euclid, OH, Sharon Morris of Vermillion, SD, Jackie Halvorson and her husband, Curt, of Good Thunder, Jane Nichols of Prior Lake; fifteen grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; also many nieces and nephews.
Mavis was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, Freb in 1963 and Floyd in 2002; six grandchildren; one great grandchild; three brothers and four sisters.
