Dennis L. Jackson, age 57, of rural Mankato, died Saturday, July 17, 2004 at Immanuel-St. Josephs Hospital, after a courageous battle with lung cancer.
Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Hilltop United Methodist Church in Mankato, with Rev. Randy Koppen officiating. Burial will be held later at Concord Cemetery in Old Concord, MN. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at Mankato Mortuary and one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday. Memorials are preferred to Hilltop United Methodist Church or to SCTC Foundation for the Dennis Jackson Scholarship Fund.
Dennis Lloyd Jackson was born December 14, 1946 in rural Olmsted County, Minnesota to Lloyd P. and Kathryn M. (Flicek) Jackson. He graduated from Pine Island High School in 1964 and received his Bachelors degree in 1969 from the University of Minnesota. He obtained his Masters degree from Minnesota State University in 2002.
Dennis was married on June 17, 1967 to Jean ReNaye Costello in Blackduck, Minnesota. He taught Ag Ed at Holdingford and Wanamingo, served in the Peace Corps in Jamaica, and farmed at Pine Island before moving to Mankato where they made their home. Dennis taught farm business management for nine years at South Central Technical College where he then served as Dean from 1986-2003. Dennis is a member of Hilltop United Methodist Church in Mankato as well as numerous professional organizations. He was past president of the National Association of Agricultural Educators, past president of the Minnesota Association of Agricultural Educators, and past president of the National Farm and Ranch Business Management Education Association. Dennis sang bass in the Magic Quartet and was a member of the Mankato Riverblenders. His pastimes include woodworking, horse trail riding, camping, and house remodeling.
His family members include his wife, Jean Jackson of Mankato; two daughters and their husbands, Amy and John Whitehead of Cross Plains, WI, Meghan and Ben Baumann of New Richland, MN; granddaughter, Callista Whitehead; step-granddaughter, Khia Baumann; parents, Lloyd and Kathryn Jackson of Pine Island, MN; sister and her husband, Bonni and Jerry Zelazny of Brooklyn Park, MN; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Dennis was preceded in death by his grandparents.
