Lorraine E. Gronewold, age 87, formerly of Lake Crystal, died Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at Keystone Communities of Mankato.
Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, January 5, 2013 at Zion Lutheran Church, Lake Crystal with Rev. Randal Lubbers, officiating. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m., Friday at Lake Crystal Mortuary and will continue one hour before service at church on Saturday. Burial will be in Ft. Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Alzheimers Association, Mayo Clinic Hospice, Mankato or donor's choice.
Lorraine was born July 4, 1925 to Herbert and Anna Jo (Wilness) Nelson in Madelia. She graduated from Madelia High School in 1943. Lorraine was united in marriage to Clement J. Gronewold on November 21, 1944 in Madelia. They lived in Sherman, Texas while Clement was stationed in the service, returning to Lewisville in 1946 and then moving to Lake Crystal in 1956. Lorraine worked for the Kinney Shoe Store, Bib "n Tucker, and then Brett's Department Store in Mankato, retiring in 1990. While at Brett's she worked in various departments but most enjoyed working in the children's department. Lorraine was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and the John Roth American Legion Post 294 Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, cross stitch, wintering in Arizona and Texas, and traveling, especially her family trip to Sweden.
Lorraine is survived by her husband, Clement "Clem" Gronewold of Madelia; three children, Stephen (Jaime) Gronewold of Minneapolis, Cindy Kortuem of North Mankato, and Candy Lee of Plymouth; three grandchildren, Steffanie (Matthew) Musich of Minneapolis, Christina Lee of Tampa, FL, and Dru Gronewold-Pedraza of Minneapolis; great-grandchild, Optimus Musich; sister, Marilyn Arduser of Madelia; brother, David (Marjorie) Nelson of Harrisburg, PA; sister-in-law, Beverly Nelson of New London; many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents; two sons-in-law, John Williams and Patrick Kortuem; brother, Phillip Nelson; brother-in-law, Lenard Arduser.
