Wally McDougall, age 78, of Mankato, died December 26, 2012 at Pathstone Living in Mankato.

Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Mankato with Rev. Jay Dahlvang, officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:00 " 10:30 a.m., Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in Silver Lake Cemetery, rural Hawley, MN at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Lewy Body Dementia Association " lbda.org, Mayo Clinic Hospice, ISJ Palliative Care " Mayo Clinic, or Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Mankato Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Wally was born November 23, 1934 to Gordon and Hilma (Holt) McDougall in Hawley, Minnesota. He graduated from Hitterdal High School in 1952. He served his country with the U.S. Army from 1954-57. He graduated from Moorhead State Teachers College in 1961 with a degree in Mathematics. Wally was united in marriage to Sharon K. Larson on November 24, 1961 at Hawley Lutheran Church. He began teaching math in Fergus Falls in 1961. In 1962 they moved to Mankato where he taught at North Mankato Junior High School until 1964 when he went to work for Control Data in Minneapolis for one year. He returned to Mankato, teaching at Lincoln Junior High School, North Mankato Junior High School, Mankato West High School, and Dakota Meadows Middle School where he retired in 1996. Wally coached many sports during his teaching career, with basketball being his favorite. Wally enjoyed sports, especially basketball, reading, woodworking, and spending time with his family.

Wally is survived by his wife, Sharon of Mankato; daughter, Sue Shea of New York, NY; son, Jay (Megan) McDougall of Roseville; grandson, Gram; five siblings, Deloris Wee of Moorhead, Russell (Ramona) McDougall of Hitterdal, Beverly Alex of Minot, ND, Evaughn Hovelsrud of Hawley, Marilyn Koppang of Mayville, ND; sister-in-law, Ethel McDougall of Fargo; many nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Wally was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Genevieve Gauffin, brother, Stanley; stillborn brother; brothers-in-law, Ernie Gauffin, Erling Wee, Val Alex, Henry Hovelsrud, and Gordon Koppang.

Wally will always be remembered as a quiet, fair, and unassuming family man and teacher. He considered his greatest accomplishments his family and making a difference in other people's lives.
