Lyle Merlin Priem, age 86, of Mankato died Monday, November 5, 2012 at Laurel's Peak in Mankato.
Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, November 10, 2012 at Messiah Lutheran Church, North Mankato with Rev. Tom Heyd. Visitation will be one hour before service at church on Saturday. Family burial will be in Woodland Hills Memorial Park, Mankato. Northview-North Mankato Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Echo Food Shelf, VINE, Messiah Lutheran Church, or donor's choice.
Lyle was born December 21, 1925 to Albert F. and Wanda (Middlesteadt) Priem in Woodville Township, Waseca County, Minnesota. He was baptized on December 28, 1925 at home and confirmed at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in 1939. He graduated from Mankato High School and attended Mankato Commercial College. He served his country in the U.S. Navy from March 1944 to July 1946. He was a signalman 3rd class, serving entirely in the South Pacific to Japan and China. He married Arlene D. Dumke on October 9, 1949 at Immanuel Lutheran Church. She died in 1997. He then married Barbara Lee on January 2, 1999 at Messiah Lutheran Church.
Lyle was employed by Equity Warehouse Co. for 36 years. After they closed he was co-founder of Equity Supply. He served as manager for both companies. He served as a trustee and on stewardship boards, treasurer, secretary, church choir for 20 years, and special usher at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church. He was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church, Eagle Lake American Legion Post 617 and VFW Post 950. Lyle was passionate about jigsaw and crossword puzzles. He enjoyed walking and spending time with his family and his two granddaughters.
Lyle is survived by his wife, Barbara of Mankato; two sons, David (Joan) Priem of Chanhassen, Ronald Priem of Utah; two granddaughters, Katie (Tim) Whipps and Kelly Priem; three step-children, Robert (Gloria) Lee of Lake Crystal, Kay (Larry) Burtis of Burnsville, Anne (Robert) Williams of Vernon Center; five step-grandsons, Andy, Eric, Ben, Ted, and Kevin; three step-granddaughters, Emily, Michelle, and Sally; sister, Delores Steinberg of North Mankato; nieces and nephews.
Lyle was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Arlene; brother, Eldor; brother-in-law, Kurt Steinberg.
