Herbert J. Oltmann, age 81, of rural Good Thunder, died Wednesday, October 31, 2012 at the Mapleton Community Home.

Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, November 5, 2012 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Vernon Center with Rev. Monte Meyer, officiating. Visitation will be held from 2-4 p.m., Sunday at Mankato Mortuary and will continue one hour before service at church on Monday. Burial will be in Vernon Center Cemetery. Memorials may be given to an organization of the donor's choice.

Herbert was born January 26, 1931 to Frederick and Sophia (Mennen) Oltmann in Center Creek Township, Martin County, Minnesota. Herb was united in marriage to Charlotte Jensen on July 17, 1954 at South Santiago Lutheran Church, Santiago, Minnesota. He was a lifelong farmer in the Vernon Center " Good Thunder area. Herb was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, where he had served as an usher. He enjoyed visiting with friends for coffee, drinking Mt. Dew, and watching television.

Herb is survived by his wife, Charlotte of rural Good Thunder; three sisters, Eloise Ward of rural Good Thunder, Josephine Davitt of Columbia Heights, and Viola Potz of Vernon Center; sister-in-law, Lois Dumonceau of Brooklyn Center; two brothers-in-law, Howard (Sharon) Jensen of Brooklyn Center and David (Jan) Jensen of Clear Lake, MN; nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Herb was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers-in-law; and other in-laws.
