Richard R. "Dick" Oberle, age 87 of rural Mankato died, Thursday, October 25, 2012, peacefully surrounded by his family.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, October 29, 2012 at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Mankato with Rev. Ted Hottinger, officiating. Visitation will be held from 2-5 p.m., Sunday at Mankato Mortuary and will continue one hour before service at church on Monday. Interment with military honors will be in Calvary Cemetery, Mankato. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society, American Diabetes Association, American Heart Association, or donor's choice.
Richard was born December 9, 1924 to Rudolph and Veronica (Klages) Oberle in Mankato. Dick served his country with the U.S. Navy from 1944-1946. He was united in marriage to Margaret A. Scheibel on June 19, 1950 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Mankato. Dick was a farmer on the family farm in Decoria Township his entire life. He was a member of the SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, the American Legion, VFW, Knights of Columbus, Catholic Order of Foresters, a former 4-H leader, former board member of the St. Clair United Fund and Equity Supply, and a longtime member of "Catholic Mafia". Dick enjoyed watching the Vikings, he was an avid sports fan, especially of his children's and grandchildren's sporting events, reading, farming, and spending time with his family.
Dick is survived by his wife, Margaret "Maggie"; four children, Jane (James) Traynor of Hastings, James (Monica) Oberle of LaCrescent, Paula (Barry) Rittenhouse of White Bear Lake, and Patrick (Carol) Oberle of Mankato; eleven grandchildren, Jason (Jilanne) Traynor, Jessica (Casey) Herrmann, Jenna Traynor, Andy (Megan) Oberle, Daniel Oberle, Clare Oberle, Sarah Rittenhouse, Kristin (Brian) Mahre, Emily Rittenhouse, Hannah Oberle, Erin Oberle; three great-grandchildren, Brady and Kaiya Traynor, Braedan Herrmann; sister, Virginia Ratcliff of Mankato; two sisters-in-law, Mary Ann Oberle of Mankato and Patricia Oberle of Eagan; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Tom and Tony Oberle; granddaughter, Kathleen Margaret Oberle; brother-in-law, William Ratcliff.
