Erna Viola Heitner, age 87, of Mankato, died Sunday, October 21, 2012, at Pathstone Living in Mankato.

Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 26, 2012, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Mankato, with Rev. Paul Lauer officiating. Interment will be in Vernon Center Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. on Thursday at Mankato Mortuary, and continues one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Memorials may be given to the donor's choice.

Erna was born on December 29, 1924, in Vernon Center. She was the daughter of Fredrick and Edith (Muske) Rosin. Erna was a graduate of Garden City High School. She was united in marriage to Melvin Heitner on June 3, 1945, in Vernon Center. Erna was a homemaker for her family and was also employed as a seamstress with Brett's in Mankato and Like Nu Cleaners in North Mankato. She was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church. Erna enjoyed sewing, puzzles, and time spent with her family.

Erna is survived by her three children, Dean (Sylvia) Heitner of Mankato, Dale (Barb) Heitner of North Mankato, and Gayle (Alan) Loeffler of Mankato; twelve grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; son-in-law, Gary (Phyllis) Meyer of Cleveland; sister, Bernice Zastrow of Mountain Lake; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Melvin; daughter, Shirley; and brother, Andrew.
