Glenn Reed Johnson, age 90, lifelong resident of Lake Crystal died Thursday, October 11, 2012 at Crystal Seasons, Lake Crystal.
Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, October 22, 2012 at the First United Methodist Church, Lake Crystal, with Rev. Debbie King Quale, officiating. Visitation will be held from 3-6 p.m., Sunday at Lake Crystal Mortuary with a 2:30 p.m. Masonic Service. Visitation will continue one hour before service at the church on Monday. Private family burial will be in Lake Crystal Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the First United Methodist Church, Lake Crystal.
Glenn was born September 15, 1922 to Jense and Hazel A. (Lowe) Johnson in Judson Township, Blue Earth County. He graduated from Lake Crystal High School and attended the University of Minnesota, School of Agriculture. Glenn was united in marriage to Genevieve Hoover on November 24, 1948 in Faribault, MN. Throughout the years the support and devotion Glenn and Gen shared enhanced their life together. Glenn was a farmer and business man in the Lake Crystal area. He was proud of the fact that he never lived more than 4 " miles from the farm on Lily Lake where he was born.
Through the years, Glenn was a very active and faithful member of the First United Methodist Church, Lake Crystal where he served in several offices including being treasurer for 25 years. Glenn was a member of Bethel Lodge #103 of Lake Crystal, Osmund Shrine, Mankato Shrine Club. He received the Hiram Award from the Masons. Glenn served his community as a member of the Lions Club and he was the first recipient of the Lake Crystal "Community Service Award". Glenn also served on the Lake Crystal City Council for 8 years, a board member for the United Fund, and a member of the Lake Crystal Chamber of Commerce.
Throughout his life, Glenn enjoyed many activities with friends and family. Among them were golfing, fishing, reading, and casino-outings with "the gang". He never gave up his love for farming and continued to windshield farm when taking a drive in the country.
Glenn's love of family was evident in the time he spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Last winter, Glenn dreamed what he thought might be an impossible dream"he wanted to see all of this family together and watch his fifteen great-grandchildren play together. His dream came true in June when all family members celebrated his 90th birthday at the Lake Crystal Area Recreation Center. It was an amazing day for all.
Glenn is survived by his three daughters, Barb (Dan) Thornton of Lakeville, MN, Roxie (Dana) Benbow of Budd Lake, New Jersey, and Sharry (Wayne) Becklin of Elk River, MN; ten grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; sister, Caryl (Mike) Rand of Marion, SD; nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Glenn was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Genevieve in 2005; grandson, Kasey Becklin in 2000; brother, Don Johnson; and sister, Merlou (James) Kelly.
Glenn was a good man and will be missed.
