Ken Johansen, age 83, of Cokato, formerly of Mankato, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 4, 2012 at Cokato Manor.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 10 at 10:30 a.m. at Belgrade Avenue United Methodist Church with Rev. Todd Harris officiating. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 5-7 p.m. at Mankato Mortuary and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. A service will also be held at Cokato Manor in Cokato, MN on Thursday, October 11 at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to the Mneme Art Therapy Program at Cokato Manor.
Ken was born on October 10, 1928 in St. Paul, Minnesota to Jens Christian and Anna Marie (Brustman) Johansen. When he was younger he was involved with the Boy Scouts. He graduated from Mankato High School in 1946. Ken served in the United States Army from January 15, 1951-December 2, 1952 during the Korean Conflict. On July 30, 1966 Ken was united in marriage to Phyllis Jane Larson at Belgrade Avenue United Methodist Church in North Mankato. He was an active longtime member of Belgrade. Ken was a foreign auto mechanic and owned the Foreign Shop in Mankato and later Johansen Service Garage. He was a founding member of the Basso Presto Sports Car Club and a member of the Kato Cycle Club. Ken loved fixing things; he retired in 1990.
Ken was a gentle, loving husband, daddy, and grandpa who will be forever missed. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis; two daughters, Elizabeth Ann (Ryan) Brands and their children, Tyler (Amanda), Gabe, and Elijah and Kristin Jane (Alex) Todd and their daughter Ruth. He was preceded in death by his parents.
