Chloe I. Elmgren, age 90, retired Mankato State University business professor, died Sunday, September 30, 2012 at Pathstone Living in Mankato.
Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 5, 2012 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Mankato with Rev. Jay Dahlvang, officiating. Visitation will be one hour before service at the church on Friday. Burial will be in Ada City Cemetery, Ada, Minnesota. Mankato Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Chloe was born October 15, 1921, on a farm in Smoky Butte Township, Divide County, North Dakota, the only child of Hardie A. and Wilhelmina "Minnie" D. M. (Schaffer) Elmgren. She graduated from high school and then attended Concordia College, Moorhead, earning a degree in business. She then earned her MBA from the University of Denver and then attended the University of Minnesota, living at the Curtis Hotel, where she earned her Ph.D. Chloe taught for four years at Mount Mercy College, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. While at Mount Mercy, she helped the college become coeducational and established its business administration program. In 1974 Chloe came to Mankato State University to teach in the business department, retiring in 1992. Chloe was an active member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church. She enjoyed traveling, collecting antiques, and taking care of her garden, especially her roses.
Chloe is survived by several cousins including, Verni and Doug McIntyre of Burnsville and Gretchen and Ron Powers of Plymouth, and extended family.
Chloe was preceeded in death by her father, September 9, 1946 and her mother, September 28, 1975.
